Solo Stove Launches Gas-Powered Pi Pizza Oven for $349
Solo Stove, known for its fire pits, is expanding its product line to include pizza ovens. The company is introducing a new model called the Pi Prime, which shares the same design and features as the original dual-fuel Pi. The Pi Prime has been recognized as one of the best pizza ovens and is now available at a lower price of $349, operating solely on gas.
Like the Pi, the Pi Prime has a “demi-dome” design with a circular shape that resembles the fire pits of the Solo Stove. The panoramic opening remains in the front, giving you plenty of room to maneuver for cooking 12-inch pizzas and other foods in the cooking chamber. Inside is a two-piece stone that can be easily removed for transport or cleaning. The key difference in the Pi Prime is the built-in gas burner, which makes this oven a stand-alone unit – in addition to the propane tank. There is a flame control knob on the front that you press and turn to light the fire in addition to using the regulator to adjust the temperature. Finally, the Pi Prime has a black base where the Pi has an all-stainless steel construction.
The Solo Stove is defined as a “working base” for pizza baking with two orange indicators on the front-mounted knob. According to Pi Prime’s Getting Started Guide, this is around 700 degrees Fahrenheit, enough to cook a pizza in less than 90 seconds. However, the company says the oven is capable of temperatures above 950 degrees and you can go below 700 degrees if you need to. The Solo Stove didn’t specify the full temperature range, but those Orange marks are a bit in the middle of the dial.
The company also has a selection of accessories for the Pi and Pi Prime models, which are due to arrive at the end of the month. They include a newer model lid, a cast iron grill pan, a regular cast iron pan, a dough rack, a wire cleaning brush, a rocking pizza cutter, and a prep board with built-in filling containers. Solo Stove already sells a cart for its pizza ovens, a Pi Stand with side shelves, a place to rest the crust under the oven and a place for a propane tank. Best of all, it has four wheels for easy portability.
At $349, the Pi Prime is $50 cheaper than Oon’s most affordable gas-only stove, the Koda 12. The Solo Stove has significantly reduced the price of the multi-fuel Pi since its launch, with the model now priced at $400. If you go the wood-burning route, adding a propane burner is another $100 if you buy it with the stove ($130 if you wait until later). Oon’s cheapest multi-fuel option is the Karu 12G for $429 and an optional gas burner for $99. Gozney’s Roccbox is another popular gas-only model at $499, and you can add a wood burner for $100.
Pi Prime will be available on Friday 18th August on the Solo Stove website.
