Elderly Man in Navi Mumbai Defrauded of ₹17 Lakh by Cyber Criminals
According to police, a 66-year-old man from Navi Mumbai was reportedly defrauded of ₹17 lakh by cyber criminals who promised to pay him for an online task. The incident was reported at the Nerul police station on Friday. The victim was contacted by four individuals claiming to represent a well-known e-commerce company. They offered to compensate him for posting reviews on social media about various products. The victim, believing their claims, made multiple payments totaling ₹17 lakh between April and May 2023. However, he realized he had been deceived when the payments stopped. Based on his complaint, a case has been registered against the unidentified culprits under sections 420 (cheating) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology (IT) Act.
