Adobe introduces Project Music GenAI Control, allowing users to create music using only text input.
Adobe is pushing boundaries in the field of generative AI with the launch of Project Music GenAI Control. This innovative prototype, revealed at the Hot Pod Summit in Brooklyn, aims to transform music production by allowing individuals without professional audio skills to easily create and personalize their own tracks.
A symphony at your fingertips
Unlike existing GenAI-based music tools, Adobe’s Project Music GenAI Control stands out with a unique approach. Users initiate the creative process by entering text prompts and defining the desired style, be it “energetic rock” or “sad blues”. The tool then uses integrated editing controls that allow users to customize the created music by adjusting the tempo, intensity, repetitive patterns and overall structure. Sections of music can be remixed and users can create repetitive loops that are perfect for content creation or background tracks.
Customization beyond imagination
In particular, Project Music GenAI Control goes beyond mere creation and offers users the ability to modify the sound based on a reference melody. It also makes it easier to extend the length of audio clips, which is a handy feature for fixed animations or podcast segments. Although the user interface for editing the created sound is hidden, Adobe guarantees users an intuitive and efficient experience.
Project Music GenAI Control, developed in collaboration with researchers at the University of California and Carnegie Mellon, is currently in the research phase. Gautham Mysore, director of audio and video AI research at Adobe, emphasized the importance of the tool, stressing that it puts users in the director’s seat, allowing them to explore and refine their musical ideas without professional compositional skills.
Despite the excitement surrounding GenAI music tools, ethical and legal concerns are emerging as AI-generated content proliferates. While other tools exist, such as Google’s MusicLM and Meta’s AudioCraft, they lack the comprehensive editing capabilities offered by Adobe’s innovation.
The development of Project Music GenAI Control, along with other Adobe experiments, can be followed on the Adobe Labs website. As Adobe Research Senior Scientist Nicholas Bryan points out, these tools offer pixel-level control over music similar to Photoshop’s deep control over visuals, giving creatives unprecedented flexibility and freedom.
