Android Users Can Now Express Emoji Reactions in Gmail
Google is finally adding emoji reactions to Gmail, allowing users to reply to emails with emoji reactions. Currently, this feature is only rolling out to Android devices, with availability for other platforms including iOS and web expected soon.
This has been a long-requested feature, and now users can simply add an emoji to quickly reply to emails, especially random messages that users tend to send sometimes.
How to add an emoji reaction in Gmail
First, as mentioned earlier, you need to use an Android device such as a phone or tablet, and then go to Gmail. Next, open the email you want to reply to using the emoji reaction. Now, under the message, look for “Add an emoji reaction” followed by a smiling emoji. Google lists the emojis you can choose from in the selector.
Google has also listed a number of conditions that can prevent you from sending emoji reactions in Gmail. First, people with school and work accounts can’t send them. Second, users using an older version of the Gmail app will receive a strangely readable email saying that someone has responded through Gmail. You will also not see reactions if you access your Gmail messages with a third-party application such as Microsoft Outlook, or if you have replied to the same message 20 times and if the reply is sent to a group email list.
That being said, some reactions are more powerful (and funnier) than others, especially the confetti reaction that fills your Gmail page with confetti, while others are subtle and take up very little screen time.
