Ape-ing Around in Hong Kong: NFT Event Causes Eye Troubles for Visitors
The lighting used at the Bored Ape Yacht Club collection celebration in Hong Kong caused eye problems for certain attendees, leading them to voice their complaints.
Yuga Labs Inc., the creator of Bored Ape, held the so-called ApeFest from the 3rd to the 5th. November, including a brightly lit party. Several people said on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, that they experienced burns after attending ApeFest.
“We are aware of this situation and are taking it seriously,” a Yuga Labs spokesperson said. “We are actively contacting those involved to better understand the root cause.”
Adrian Zdunczyk, known in the crypto community for producing chart-based technical analysis of digital assets, shared on X that he had attended ApeFest and was diagnosed with photokeratitis after a visit to the hospital. Photokeratitis occurs after unprotected exposure to ultraviolet light.
“My vision tested almost perfect with no serious corneal damage, thankfully,” he wrote.
Yuga Labs is behind both Bored Ape and CryptoPunks NFT collection. The NFT market as a whole has collapsed from the peak of the pandemic era. Authors and merchants also argue about the appropriate level of royalty payments.
