Apple AirPods 3 may not come with a USB-C charging case
Cupertino-based technology Apple is reportedly not planning to release AirPods 3 with a USB-C port, unlike the latest version of AirPods Pro, which may come with the feature later this year.
According to Apple industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the company does not appear to have plans for USB-C versions of AirPods 2 and 3. Kuo’s comments have drawn attention as Apple plans to release a revised version of the AirPods Pro with a USB-C port.
“I think this is likely to be the USB-C version of the AirPods Pro 2, with mass shipments expected on the 23rd-23rd. By the way, Apple doesn’t seem to have any plans for USB-C versions of the AirPods 2 and 3 at this time,” he wrote on Twitter.
However, speculation suggests that Apple may not add the feature to the fourth-generation AirPods either. On the other hand, the company is said to be developing a cheaper version of AirPods called “AirPods Lite” to compete with affordable wireless headphones.
AirPods are currently available in four different models, from the second-generation AirPods to the advanced AirPods Max, and are popular despite their high prices. According to Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu, demand for AirPods is expected to decline by 2023.
In related news, Apple recently unveiled its mixed reality headset to the company’s top 100 executives at the Steve Jobs Theater last week, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. Despite the similarities with Meta’s headset and metaverse, the iPhone maker is expected to keep the device distinct from existing offerings.
The device also offers tools for artists, designers and engineers that enable drawing and image processing in 3D. There are also apps for editing virtual reality videos with hand gestures, the MacRumors report said.
Some employees have suggested that Apple could once again delay the release of the headphones, although manufacturing is now underway for a June unveiling, it added.
