Apple created over 1,000 direct jobs in India in two years: MoS IT Rajeev Chandrashekhar
The Apple ecosystem in India has created more than a million new direct jobs in the industry in the last two years, Electronics and IT Minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar said on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, Apple opened its first own-brand retail store in India in Mumbai in the presence of CEO Tim Cook. The company will also open its second store in Delhi on Thursday.
“Driven by PM @narendramodi’s visionary PLI system, the @Apple ecosystem has created over 1 million new direct jobs in the industry in the last 24 months,” the minister tweeted.
– About 70 percent of them are women aged 19-24 who are starting their careers, acquiring skills and improving their family’s living comfort, he added.
Apple has increased its production in India, and in 2023, iPhone exports rose to more than $5 billion from India.
Backed by Apple, India’s smartphone exports also crossed $10 billion for the first time in the financial year.
Apple began manufacturing iPhones in India in 2017, and since then the company has been working with suppliers to assemble new iPhone models and produce a growing number of components.
