Apple Developing ‘Apple GPT’ AI Tool To Compete With ChatGPT and Google’s Bard – Here’s What We Know

Apple, the tech giant headquartered in Cupertino, is currently working on its own artificial intelligence endeavor known as “Apple GPT”. This project is expected to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Bard. As per a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple has recently shifted its focus towards AI development, making it a top priority in the past few months.

Apple may make a big AI announcement in 2024, but they haven’t made any concrete plans yet. The company’s artificial intelligence manager John Giannandrea and software engineering manager Craig Federighi lead Apple’s artificial intelligence efforts.

Gurman said Apple has developed an “Ajax” framework for major language models such as ChatGPT, Microsoft’s Bing and Google’s Bard, and has created its own internal chatbot, which some engineers call “Apple GPT,” a play on ChatGPT. the company doesn’t yet have a “clear strategy” for creating a product for consumers, he added.

With the popularity of AI chatbots, Apple is worried that it may be left behind in the adoption of new AI technologies that could revolutionize the way people interact with smartphones. Apple employees have special access to a chatbot application that the company is currently developing.

However, the result of the application cannot be used to create new features for customers. Instead, it’s used to prototype the product and can answer questions based on the data used to train it, MacRumors reports.

The Ajax platform is built on Google’s Jax machine learning framework, which runs on Google Cloud. The US tech giant reportedly considered signing a deal with OpenAI and trialled OpenAI’s technology with its corporate teams, but ultimately decided against it, MacRumors said.

The brand has several teams working on AI and trying to solve problems like privacy issues. Even with the Siri personal assistant, the company has always been more cautious than the competition, striving to put privacy ahead of functionality.
