Apple iPhone choke case
According to a Reuters report, British consumer advocate Justin Gutman filed a lawsuit against Apple along with more than 24 million iPhone users in the United Kingdom. iPhone users accused Apple of throttling the iPhone’s battery and performance. The lawyers claim that Apple released a software update to several iPhone models and affected the performance of their batteries, slowing them down.
On the other hand, Apple denies that its batteries are defective or that it has intentionally caused problems for its customers. Apple has made several attempts to have the case dismissed, but on Wednesday the Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT) issued a written decision allowing Gutmann’s case to proceed. In addition, CAT also said that their report “lacked clarity and precision” and that their “litigation funding arrangements may have to be changed following a landmark decision by the Supreme Court in July that many such agreements were illegal”.
Apple concluded by saying, “We have never — and never will — do anything to intentionally shorten the life of any Apple product or degrade the user experience in order to upgrade customers.” In 2017, Apple also offered affected users. get batteries replaced at a lower price and free battery replacement was introduced for iPhone 6s models.
The company is now more open about its products, performance and updates. When the iPhone 15 lineup had heating issues, Apple immediately reported it and resolved the issue with a new software update to improve the user experience.
