Apple Fixes NFC Glitches in BMW Cars with iOS 17.1.1 Update
Apple has released iOS 17.1.1 for all iPhone models that are compatible with iOS 17. This update fixes an issue with iPhone 15 series NFC and wireless data transfer when charging with BMW wireless chargers and a bug in the weather widget.
This update comes a few weeks after Apple released iOS 17.1, the first major iOS release since iOS 17 in September of this year, and while this version of iOS hasn’t introduced any major features — for iPhone 15 or older — it focuses on elimination. serious errors from the system.
Apple notes that in “rare circumstances” services such as Apple Pay and other NFC features may not be available on iPhone 15 models after wireless charging in certain cars, and this update fixes that. This applies especially to BMW and Toyota Supra car owners. Earlier last month, reports surfaced that some iPhone 15 models had NFC chips failing when wirelessly charged in BMW cars. BMW acknowledged the problem and said it was working with Apple to get a fix, and it now appears that the fix has been finalized.
Another bug fixed by this release is the home screen weather widget not showing snow. In versions prior to iOS 17.1.1, Apple notes that the “Weather Lock Screen widget may not display snow correctly,” and this update fixes this bug just before winter in most parts of the world.
