Apple iPad Air and Thunderbolt display are now classified as outdated
Apple has updated its list of older products, including the original iPad Air and Thunderbolt display. This means owners of these devices will no longer be able to take advantage of repair and service options at the Apple Store and other authorized service centers for these devices, MacRumors reports.
For those who don’t know, Apple categorizes a product after its lifecycle into two categories: Obsolete or Obsolete. Products appear when “Apple stopped distributing them for sale more than 7 years ago” and “Apple has stopped all hardware services for older products” respectively, and service providers cannot order replacement parts for repair.
First introduced in 2013, the iPad Air featured a 9.7-inch IPS HD display, an A7 processor and 1GB of RAM, a 5-megapixel camera sensor, and iOS 7.
On the other hand, the Thunderbolt display, very popular among creative professionals, debuted in 2011. It has a 27-inch panel with a resolution of 2560 x 1440, a built-in 720p webcam, and a price tag. 999 dollars.
Looking ahead, Apple is expected to add other popular devices to the old category, such as the iPhone X. It’s been nearly six years since the redesigned iPhone with Face ID was launched in 2017, making it a valid old classification.
Also, if you have any of the devices mentioned above or any device from Apple’s old catalog, you can send it to third-party, non-Apple repair shops for repair. However, parts and repairs may be subject to availability.
