Apple May Unveil Updated iPad Air and mini This Week
Apple wrapped up its “Wonderlust” event where it launched the iPhone 15 series and the new Apple Watch Ultra 2 and Series 9 last month in September. Notably, there were no updates for any iPads during the event. However, as the company has done in recent years, Apple is expected to unveil fresh new iPads this week with updated internals, as reported by Supercharged.
The journalist responsible for this information, Sami Fathi, has accurately predicted the release of the MacBook Pro with the M2 Pro and M2 Max chipsets earlier this year. Now, he reports that Apple will brief select media later this week about the new iPads.
According to the report, Apple could update the iPad Air, iPad mini, and regular iPad with newer internals as part of this release, and it could happen as early as October 17 this week.
As previously rumored, the iPad Air could be upgraded to the M2 chipset to align with the iPad Pro, while the Apple iPad mini could get the Apple A16 Bionic chip, which is the same SoC that powers the vanilla iPhone 15 models.
Overall, the updates are expected to focus on bringing current iPads together with current and improved internals. However, according to Supercharged, Apple will not hold a special event for this announcement; Instead, it will launch products through announcements on its website and YouTube, as well as a press release — possibly following the same strategy it used to launch with the iPad Pro’s M2 chipsets and even the MacBook Pro’s M2 Pro and M2 Max processors.
