Apple Predicted To Reach 7% Market Share For iPhones In India By 2023

Apple iPhones, driven by domestic manufacturing, are expected to capture a 7 percent market share in the Android-dominated smartphone market in India this year, the latest data showed on Saturday, as the tech giant prepares to launch its flagship devices globally next week.

Apple’s iPhone shipments in the country grew by 68 percent (compared to the same period of the year) in the first half of this year.

In the first half of the year, Apple achieved a 6% market share in the Indian smartphone market and dominated the high-end smartphone segment (priced between Rs 50,000 and Rs 100,000) with a strong 63% market share, according to market data. company CyberMedia Research (CMR).

CMR estimates that iPhone 15 shipments will account for around 65 percent in the launch quarter, driven by increased “Make in India” initiatives.

Domestic production of the iPhone in the country has increased significantly over the past four years.

In another boost to its Indian manufacturing dream, Apple maker Foxconn has started local production of the next-generation iPhone 15 at its Sriperumbudur plant near Tamil Nadu faster than ever.

A small batch of “Make in India” iPhone 15 units are likely to be exported to other countries within a short time of its global launch.

Other Apple suppliers in India such as Pegatron and Wistron (which Tata Group is buying) are also assembling the iPhone 15 as soon as possible, according to sources.

CMR predicts that iPhone deliveries of the iPhone 15 series will increase by 25 percent year-on-year.

The deliveries of the iPhone 14 series in the launch quarter were approximately 58 percent and the deliveries of the iPhone 13 series approximately 23 percent in the country.

“Apple has enjoyed positive growth in India in recent years, with sales of its older generation iPhones driving the growth. The upcoming iPhone 15 series is poised to maintain this growth momentum,” Prabhu Ram, Head-Industry Intelligence Group, CMR, told IANS.

However, its success will depend on Apple’s ability to effectively manage potential production challenges and delivery delays with the 15 models, particularly the “Pro” models, he added.

The pace of the iPhone market in India has been boosted by the sales of the previous generation iPhone.

Apple will host its next major global product launch — introducing the new iPhone 15 lineup — on September 12. The technology giant is also expected to announce new Apple Watches at the event.
