Apple to reveal AI strategy at June 10 Developers Conference
Apple Inc. is set to begin its annual Worldwide Developers Conference on June 10, during which the company is anticipated to reveal its highly awaited artificial intelligence strategy.
The iPhone maker announced the timing on Tuesday, saying the event will run until June 14. While Apple didn’t say what it plans to unveil — as usual — people familiar with the matter have said the show will have a heavy focus on artificial intelligence.
Continuing the approach used since the beginning of the Covid pandemic, the conference will be held free of charge on Apple’s website and app for developers. Opening day announcements will be held in person at the company’s campus in Cupertino, California.
Apple is expected to announce its next major software updates for the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Vision Pro headset and smartwatch — and its new AI strategy is at the forefront of the planned iOS 18 update.
Announcing the event, Apple chief marketing officer Greg Joswiak said, “It’s going to be absolutely incredible” — a clear nod to artificial intelligence.
Apple’s AI strategy includes a series of new predictive features to help users in their everyday lives. However, the company does not plan to introduce its own generative AI chatbot. Instead, Apple is in talks with potential partners such as Alphabet Inc.’s Google and OpenAI to produce creative AI services, Bloomberg News has reported.
According to the people working on the update, the iOS 18 update is expected to be the most ambitious overhaul in iPhone software history. The company is also planning a minor update to the Apple Watch software and the first major update to the operating system that works with Vision Pro headphones.
