Apple Vision Pro Headset Offers Optical Inserts, No Glasses Needed For Poor Vision
During the WWDC 2023 keynote, Apple unveiled its latest product line, the Apple Reality Pro headset, which is a spatial computer. This mixed-reality headset has been making waves in the news since its announcement, as it is the company’s first new product line in years. The Vision Pro headset will be sold at a staggering price of $3499 (approximately Rs 2,88,000) and will initially only be available in the US.
Not only does it have advanced features like a 3D sensor camera, Micro-OLED displays with a total of 23 million pixels, surround sound, and M2 and R1 chipsets, the Vision Pro headset is also suitable for people with low vision. Although wearing glasses with headphones is not possible, Apple has partnered with Zeiss to offer vision-correcting accessories.
Users with limited vision can use Zeiss optical inserts that are tailored to their vision requirements. With the vision prescription, Apple and Zeiss can create a vision correction accessory for the user, although these accessories are sold separately and not included in the package.
MacRumors notes that not everyone can get visual markings based on vision regulations. This means that a few people with extreme prescriptions may not be able to use the headphones at all.
Still, the ability to use the headset without glasses separates the Apple Vision Pro from other offerings in theory, allowing for more comfortable viewing. Notably, Meta, now Apple’s biggest competitor in the AR-VR space, also offers vision-correcting markings on its headsets, including the Meta Quest Pro and Meta Quest 2.
