Can the Apple Watch Ultra Withstand Prolonged Submersion?
The Apple Watch Ultra is marketed as a rugged smartwatch, and even its ads show people using it underwater, hiking in extreme conditions, and more. But all this is mostly marketing to show its worth. What happens when the Apple Watch Ultra finds itself in a real-life situation where there are not hours or days but months under water?
Recently, there was an episode where the quality and durability of the Apple Watch Ultra came into question, and the results were mostly mixed, as the company could now face questions about the silicone strap that comes with the Apple Watch Ultra.
The owner of the Apple Watch Ultra featured in this report decided to go diving with Apple’s smartwatch, expecting it to last. However, to his dismay, the Apple Watch Ultra’s strap came off when he was 30 feet underwater, and the watch sank into the lake, which he tried to retrieve several times.
In the end, he decided to give up, but was smart enough to activate the lost mode through the iPhone’s Find My app. The owner had given up on getting the Apple Watch Ultra back, but a few months later he got an alert saying they had found his Apple Watch, which was picked up by his brother who was near the lake area.
But now comes the real test of the Apple Watch Ultra: three months under water can be tough on any device, so how does the Apple Watch Ultra fare? Initially, the Watch Ultra would not turn on, which would have worried the user.
And the device required a lot of cleaning. But after charging the device for a few days, the owner updated to say that his Apple Watch Ultra is working fine and didn’t seem to be under water for that long.
This case seems to point to two things. One is that the Apple Watch Ultra, which is priced at Rs 89,900, is quite durable and secondly, when paired with an iPhone, you can activate the Find My feature and ensure that you never lose the device, no matter how deep it goes in the water under.
