Ayaneo Kun Gaming Handheld Available for Pre-Order Starting September 5
Ayaneo’s newest handheld gaming PC, the Kun, will be up for pre-order on September 5, marking another addition to their expanding lineup. The Indiegogo campaign will commence at 8AM ET.
Ayaneo has released several gaming handhelds, but Kuni’s specs should put it at the top of the heap compared to similar devices. Although it has practically the same processor as the ROG Ally, its 8.4-inch screen sets it apart and makes it even bigger than the already large Steam Deck. Kun’s screen has a 1600p resolution, compared to the Steam Deck’s 720p screen and the ROG Ally’s 1080p screens. Kun’s screen also has a much brighter 500 nit screen than the Steam Deck’s 400 nits. This large and bright display can provide a great visual experience, but it can negatively affect the life of the Kun’s 75 Wh (19,500 mAh) battery.
Based on Ayaneo’s internal tests, the Kun should be able to run for about 49 minutes at extreme settings, but the company doesn’t recommend this for daily use. With low settings, you can expect the Kun to work for about three hours on a single charge. It’s similar to the Steam Deck, but it remains to be seen how well Kun will fare in real life.
As for other specifications, the Ayaneo Kuni has an AMD Ryzen 7 7840U processor with an integrated Radeon 780M graphics card. Ayaneo is also packed with the new “KUNPeng” heat dissipation system, which helps the device from overheating when playing games at the highest settings. There are also some smaller but still significant improvements, such as an optimized grip feel for larger screens, a new floating eight-way D-pad, face detection and a new customizable back button. Additionally, Kuni’s built-in folding stand is a nice touch.
When available in three colors: Silver Wing, Black Feather and White Silk. Prices start at $999 for Early Bird buyers, with an Indiegogo retail price of $1,129, and an official retail price of $1,209 for the base model with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. The maximum configuration of 64GB of RAM and 4TB of storage will set you back $1,699 from Early Bird and $1,809 from Indiegogo retail price and $1,949 official retail price. Global shipping is expected to begin in mid-October.
