Bluesky Social unveils Significant Enhancements: Email Confirmation, Alerts for Misleading Links, and More
Elon Musk’s recent acquisition of X (formerly Twitter) has brought about numerous changes on the platform, most of which have faced criticism from users. As a result, many users have migrated to alternative platforms like Mastodon, Threads, and Bluesky Social. While Mastodon and Threads are open to all users, Bluesky Social still operates on an invite-only basis, requiring invite codes for access. Despite this exclusivity, Bluesky Social recently revealed that it has reached 1 million users on its platform. In order to ensure a secure and safe user experience, Bluesky Social has introduced new safety features as part of its latest update.
Bluesky Social update
According to a TechCrunch report, Bluesky Social, owned by former X boss Jack Dorsey, has released a 1.52 update that brings several security and protection features to the platform. It allows users to eventually change and reconfirm their email addresses if errors occur while entering them. Users will soon receive an in-app prompt asking them to confirm their email address for added security.
In addition to this, Bluesky Social also warns users about possible misleading links. If the link shared in the message does not match the text, a “potentially misleading” flag appears, asking users if they really want to visit the website.
Other features
With the update, users can now switch between multiple profiles by long pressing their profile pictures at the bottom. In addition, when using the search, the people you follow are prioritized. TechCrunch reports that in addition to new features, the update also brings bug fixes and performance improvements.
Setting a price limit
In August, Bluesky Social introduced speed limiting to maintain the stability and security of the decentralized microblogging platform. Interestingly, X made a similar move a few months ago, drawing criticism from millions of users. However, Bluesky stated that “This update should *not* affect your service experience”.
The reason behind this big move? Users are said to have flocked to the platform after Elon Musk announced that X would be ditching the blocking feature. For Bluesky on August 19 Nearly 5,616 new users signed up, which was a huge number compared to just 536 in the previous 24 hours.
