Why You Can’t View Your X Posts Before 2014
Since Elon Musk’s acquisition, X (previously Twitter) has undergone numerous transformations, altering the user experience significantly. The platform, now owned by Musk, recently went through a significant rebranding effort, replacing its well-known Larry The Bird logo with an X and adopting the same name. Additionally, X has faced several disruptions in recent months, including temporary restrictions on unverified accounts and discontinuing browsing access for users without accounts.
The recent glitch has now affected posts made on X before 2014, including Ellen DeGeneres’ famous Oscar selfie with Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Bradley Cooper and more.
X error
Vtuber @DaniloTakag first pointed out that X releases made before 2014 have been affected by a recent glitch where the media or hyperlinks attached to it are broken. It was later confirmed by technologist Tom Coates, who posted on X “More vandalism from @elonmuski. Twitter has now removed all media posted before 2014. That’s – for now – nearly a decade of images and videos from the early 2000s removed from the service.”
The mistake has also affected the world’s most retweeted image of all time, the famous Oscar selfie taken by American TV presenter Ellen DeGeneres and posted to X, which has currently been removed from the platform.
While neither CEO Elon Musk nor CEO Linda Yaccarino have commented, Community Notes, X’s collaborative feature that adds context to potentially misleading tweets, mentioned under Coates’ post that pre-2014 images are still stored on the server, but the glitch is broken. “t.co” links. It also mentioned that while the famous selfie is currently unviewable, it has not been removed and is still available on the platform’s servers.
Block feature to be removed
Elon Musk made a shocking comment about X on Friday when he said the “block” feature would be removed from the platform. This means that users cannot block other users on the platform regardless of whether they are spamming or trolling. Musk responded to a tweet asking if there was ever a reason to unmute someone when he said, “Block is removed as a ‘feature’, except for DMs. He also added, ‘It makes no sense.’
