Cartoon Adaptation of ‘Among Us’ to be Developed by Creators of ‘Infinity Train’ and ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’
According to Variety, the popular video game Among Us is being adapted into a cartoon series by CBS Studios in collaboration with Innersloth, the game’s original developer. The project boasts a talented team, including showrunner Owen Dennis, known for creating the critically-acclaimed Infinity Train, and animation studio Titmouse, which has previously worked on successful shows such as Star Trek: Lower Decks and Bigmouth.
If you’re at all familiar with the game, the burst action seems like deja vu. The show follows the crew of a spaceship as they are murdered and replaced by an alien shapeshifter in an attempt to sabotage the ship and cause mass confusion. In other words, it’s a game, only with professional voice actors instead of friends and family.
There are no voice samples or even some simple stills from the animation yet. No streaming platform or network has even been announced for the series, but CBS Studios’ Paramount+ is a good bet. However, Paramount+ has done what modern streamers do where they not only cancel shows but immediately remove them, so who knows.
Should you be excited about this animated series? Creator Owen Dennis cut his teeth on the critically acclaimed Cartoon Network series Regular Show before moving on to the absolutely brilliant Infinity Train. Dennis served as showrunner for all four seasons of Infinity Train before Max canceled it and then asked it out entirely. There are no official DVDs or Blu-Rays, but you can buy the episodes digitally through Amazon and Apple to see what all the fuss is about.
Meanwhile, the Within Us series doesn’t have a release date, although the show is being handled by The Animation Guild and not the WGA, so work should be able to move forward without crossing borders.
