ChatGPT will eliminate many current jobs: OpenAI CEO Sam Altman
Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, which created ChatGPT, believes that AI technology will reshape society as we know it, adding that he is concerned that AI chatbots could “eliminate many existing jobs.”
He believes that there are real dangers involved, but it could also be the “greatest technology that humanity has yet developed” to significantly improve our lives, according to ABC News.
“This is where we have to be careful. I think people should be happy that we’re a little scared of this,” Altman said.
When asked why he was “afraid” to start a business, he said that if he wasn’t, “you shouldn’t either trust or be very unhappy that I’m in this job.”
“It’s going to eliminate a lot of current jobs, that’s true. We can do a lot better. The reason we’re developing AI at all, in terms of making our lives and lives better and in a positive direction, this is the greatest technology humanity has developed so far,” OpenAI’s CEO said.
He also discussed the potential impact of AI-powered chatbots on education, including their potential to encourage student laziness.
“Education is going to change. But that has happened many times with technology. When we got the calculator, the way we taught math and what we tested students on completely changed.”
In addition, Altman and his team want users to think of ChatGPT as a “copilot” in any field that can help you write complex computer code or solve problems, the report says.
Last week, OpenAI announced that ChatGPT Plus, a subscription service for using AI that creates text, is now available in India.
“Good news! ChatGPT Plus subscriptions are now available in India. Get early access to new features including GPT-4 today,” OpenAI said in a tweet.
