ChatGPT Plus Overwhelmed by Popularity: Signups Temporarily Halted by Sam Altman
ChatGPT has experienced a rapid surge in popularity since its launch in November 2022. OpenAI recently hosted its inaugural developer conference, during which it unveiled numerous upcoming enhancements for ChatGPT. Among these exciting additions is a chatbot creator that purportedly enables users to design their own AI chatbots, complete with an interactive interface. These updates have evidently motivated ChatGPT users to subscribe to the premium service, ChatGPT Plus, which offers exclusive features. As a result, the platform has temporarily halted new signups for ChatGPT Plus.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman informed X about the suspension of new registrations in the ChatGPT Plus service. This is due to the increase in new orders after the developer day. “We are suspending new ChatGPT Plus registrations for a while 🙁 Post-Devday usage has exceeded our capacity and we want to make sure everyone has a great experience,” OpenAI’s CEO wrote on X.
Users who wish to register in the future will be notified when subscriptions open in the ChatGPT application.
Just last week, ChatGPT users were having trouble accessing the platform, with a message reportedly appearing saying, “ChatGPT is now full.” Altman then wrote to X: “Usage of our new devday features far exceeds our expectations. We plan to release GPTs to all subscribers on Monday, but still haven’t been able to. Hopefully soon. Service likely to be unstable in the short term due to load. Sorry”.
ChatGPT Plus features
ChatGPT Plus is a premium service of the platform that offers unique features to its users. It opens access to the more advanced GPT-4 model. In addition, it also unlocks additional features such as a code interpreter and ChatGPT extensions.
