Can ChatGPT Be Your Only Voice Assistant? Find Out What Makes It Next-Gen!
ChatGPT has been a major development in AI since it was released in 2022. It has dominated headlines and is rapidly changing the way we interact with the internet.
Last week, OpenAI opened up access to ChatGPT Voice to all free users. Previously, it was only available to paying ChatGPT Plus users. It can be accessed through the ChatGPT mobile app on both Android and iOS devices.
You might be wondering why this is a big deal considering it’s just ChatGPT with speech capabilities. But the bigger picture is different. It allows users to have a full-fledged conversation with ChatGPT – in the same way as when typing. This completely changes the experience, and once you try it, you’ll be convinced that it’s a next-generation voice assistant experience like you’ve never seen before.
The core remains the same, but it opens up new possibilities
In our experience, ChatGPT understands what you say accurately and has almost no errors. It really gets it. Plus, the answers and OpenAI’s technology make you feel like you’re talking to a real person.
And if you want a transcript of your conversations, you can get that too.
Once you start using it, you’ll notice that the responses aren’t all that different from the regular ChatGPT experience, but listening to ChatGPT talk is quite a challenge. It does it in a very natural way, unlike the robotic voice of some other popular assistants. However, you can’t ask it about real-time events like the weather, exchange rates, or what’s going on in the world. But if you don’t use assistants like Google Assistant or Apple Siri for these things, you probably won’t use ChatGPT for them either.
Using ChatGPT Voice to, for example, follow a recipe without typing is a great way to save time and avoid constantly looking at your device. You can simply ask ChatGPT to read you the steps and it will do so clearly and concisely. This can be especially useful if you are following a complex recipe or if you are multitasking.
It’s also important to note that ChatGPT isn’t integrated with iOS or Android, and you can’t control smart devices with it. This means that if you’re looking for a way to control your smart devices with your voice, you’ll have to use a different voice assistant like Google Assistant or Siri. But it hints at what the future Assistant could look like, especially with Google’s Bard slowly rising through the ranks and Google’s next-gen LLM-Gemini also in the works.
ChatGPT Voice – How I use it
Although I have no use for ChatGPT as such, using the voice feature has been a completely different experience. It mimics the human voice well, responds quickly and gets most of the information you need.
So far, I’ve set the function button on the iPhone 15 Pro to launch the ChatGPT Voice assistant, and it’s pretty seamless and fast. You can follow this step-by-step guide to learn how to do the same if you have an iPhone 15 Pro and want to use ChatGPT Voice at the touch of a button.
