Clearblue Launches Affordable At-Home Menopause Test
Clearblue has introduced a novel product, the “Menopause Stage Indicator,” which utilizes urine testing to determine the specific phase of menopause a person is experiencing. This marks the company’s initial venture into the women’s health market, addressing a previously neglected area.
The Menopause Stage Indicator looks like a regular pregnancy test stick, but instead of testing urine for pregnancy hormones, it looks for follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) levels, which are measured to confirm menopause. To get accurate test results, you need to complete five urine tests over ten days, and Clearblue recommends taking them every other day. Using FSH levels, menstrual cycle history, and a person’s age, the company can determine and confirm menopause. The app calculates whether a person is in premenopause, early perimenopause, late perimenopause or postmenopause.
In a press release, Clearblue acknowledges that only a healthcare professional can confirm someone’s menopause. However, through the app, you can create a personalized report and share it with your healthcare provider to confirm test results and discuss possible treatment options. The Menopause Stage Indicator is available on Amazon for a starting price of $20.
Women’s health has long been left aside as a mere part of healthcare. And it’s even worse for aging people with menopause. The market for the menopause testing device from Clearblue, the brand best known for its pregnancy tests, is first class. Studies show that 73 percent of women experience menopause but do not seek treatment for their symptoms, and the size of the global menopause market is projected to grow to $21.6 billion by 2026.
