Countdown to 2024: Microsoft 365 Browser Extension Support Set to Expire – Here’s What You Need to Know!
Microsoft has revealed its plans to end support for the Microsoft 365 browser extension, a free add-on available on popular browsers such as Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome. This extension allows users to conveniently access Microsoft 365 apps and documents online. With a significant user base of over 6 million on Google Chrome and more than 4 million on Edge, the extension will be officially retired on January 15, 2024, and subsequently removed from web stores.
In a recent blog post, Microsoft announced: “This extension will be retired and support will end on January 15, 2024. After that date, the extension will no longer receive security updates, non-security updates, bug fixes, or technical support.”
After this deadline, users will no longer receive essential updates and support for the plugin.
Microsoft Edge users are advised to remove the extension as follows:
1. Sign in with your Microsoft account.
2. Select the Microsoft 365 browser extension icon next to the address bar.
3. In Settings, right-click and select “Remove from Microsoft Edge” or select Manage Extensions to remove it.
Users can now access Microsoft 365 apps directly from the Microsoft Edge sidebar for quick access to tools, apps, and more in the current tab.
For those using the Microsoft 365 browser extension on Chrome, the removal process is as follows:
1. Sign in with your Microsoft account.
2. Select the Microsoft 365 browser extension icon next to the address bar.
3. In Settings, right-click and select “Remove from Chrome” or select Manage Extensions to remove it.
Users can still access free Microsoft 365 applications online by visiting www.microsoft365.com and bookmarking the page in the Chrome browser for quick access.
In other updates, Microsoft has added new features to Outlook Lite, including SMS support for Indian users. Outlook Lite now supports Indian vernaculars, enhancing user communication with features such as speech typing, transliteration, and the ability to read emails in regional languages. This gives Indian users a more comprehensive and responsive experience, making it easier to write and read emails in their preferred language, according to the company.
