Delhi University Offers Scholarships and Laptops for BTech Program
During a press conference, Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh announced that Delhi University has implemented various incentives for its three new BTech programs. These courses, namely BTech Computer Science and Engineering, BTech Electronics and Communication Engineering, and BTech Electrical Engineering, will be conducted by the Faculty of Technology. The new academic session is scheduled to begin on August 16.
A total of 360 students are admitted based on the results of the common entrance exams (Mains). In particular, each of the three programs reserves a place for one girl. Additionally, the university will reimburse up to ₹50,000 towards the purchase of a laptop for each enrolled student.
To ensure equitable access to quality education, the University of Delhi is introducing a Financial Support Scheme (FSS) for economically weaker students applying for BTech programmes. Candidates whose parental income is up to ₹4000,000 will get 90% exemption from the application fee, while those whose parents’ income is between ₹4000 to ₹8000 will get 50% exemption.
In addition, the university has reserved an extra seat for one girl child in each BTech program. An additional quota for orphan students has also been introduced this year. There are 120 places in the first year of each course, with a total of 360 participants.
The purpose of BTech programs is to give a minimum of 50% weightage and a maximum of 65% weightage to the major. The remaining emphasis is assigned to minor subject areas. The curriculum is in line with the national education policy and offers students several exit options. After completing one year of study and earning the required credits, students receive a certificate. Two years of study leads to a degree, three years to an advanced degree and four years to a technical degree.
The departments of information processing technology, electronics and communication technology, and electrical engineering will be located on the northern campus, close to logistical support and other faculties and departments.
Apart from BTech courses, Delhi University is also introducing new programs including five-year LLB and ITEP during this academic session.
In short, the initiatives of providing scholarships, laptops and additional seats are aimed at providing equal opportunities and support to students pursuing BTech programs in Delhi University.
