Developers and others can now access Google’s Gemini Pro AI.
Google has been busy working on Gemini for the past few weeks, and after the official release of the new AI chatbots, the Gemini Pro version is now available for developers and businesses.
The decision to offer developers access to the Pro version will help the company build new AI tools that can be integrated into a wider range of cloud products.
To use Gemini Pro, developers need the free Google AI Studio online tool, while businesses can access it through Google’s AI platform called Vertex AI. Google AI Studio users can log in with their Google account and make the most of the free quota provided by Google.
Gemini Pro’s SDKs are available in different coding languages, which can expand the foundation for new applications that can take advantage of Gemini Pro’s capabilities.
Google has highlighted the benefits of adopting Gemini Pro. Gemini Pro accepts text as input and generates text as output. It claims the new Pro AI model outperforms other similarly sized models in research benchmarks. Gemini Pro has a 32KB context window for text, and future versions will have a larger context window. And the company also pointed out that while the AI model is free to use for now with certain restrictions, it will eventually get a price that it guarantees will be competitive.
The company allows 60 requests per minute, which is 20 times more than other free offers on the market. That being said, Google mentions that using the free quota means that your API and Google AI Studio inputs and outputs are available to other reviewers.
In addition to the Gemini Pro, Google has released version 1.0 with the Gemini Nano, which will be available on the Pixel 8 Pro model, and the Gemini Ultra, which will be released in 2024.
