Discover How to Make Samsung Bixby Talk in Your Voice
Samsung has recently unveiled a new feature for its Bixby assistant, which allows users to have their phones speak in their own voices. However, the outcomes of this feature have been met with unease and a sense of eeriness due to the unsettlingly robotic nature of the results.
Apple iPhone Personal Voice
Apple, through the soon-to-be-launched iOS 17 update, had previously introduced a personal voice feature aimed at helping speech-impaired people. This feature requires users to spend about 15 minutes reading different phrases into the iPhone’s microphone. The idea was to help those who may have speech difficulties for various reasons, such as illness or temporary voice limitations. Apple was sensitive to the issue and recognized the significant effort it caused and the importance of accessibility.
Samsung’s fast and quirky custom sound
However, Samsung’s take on this concept differs considerably. A custom sound option is now available in the settings menu of the Bixby app. To use it, users have to navigate through the Bixby app settings under Language and voice style settings, where they will find the custom voice option hidden at the bottom.
A strange collection of phrases
Creating custom audio with Samsung is significantly shorter and less thought-out than Apple’s approach, according to a Tech Radar report. Users only have to read ten sentences. These sentences are awkwardly constructed, and not sentences you would typically use in everyday conversation. For example, the tenth sentence users have to read is: “A hungry purple dinosaur ate a good-natured fox, a thrashing crab, and a crazy, noisy whale.” This peculiar phrase has users confused by its strange narrative, in which a “singy” fox meets a dark fate at the hands (or jaws) of a hungry purple dinosaur.
Samsung’s introduction of such a feature has confused many users. Samsung’s version looks more like a novelty, and the results are described as robotic and confusing. As a result, there are questions about the purpose and usability of this unconventional addition to the Bixby assistant.
