Deepfakes have become a growing concern as people fall victim to photos and videos that are edited or manipulated to make someone say or do something they didn’t do in real life. Last month, Taylor Swift’s deepfake photos went viral on X, raising concerns. Speaking about India’s ability to meet these technological challenges, Chandrasekhar said, “India dealt with fake news and deep fakes before they gained global attention.”

So should citizens fear this technology? In other words, the IT minister suggested that “AI will change the way we live.”

The minister also spoke about the ongoing legal battle between the New York Times and OpenAI over copyright issues. Chandrasekhar said the outcome of this legal battle “will define the use of AI in content creation.”

Chandrasekhar was also asked about India’s digital transformation in the last 10 years at the conclave. “India’s technology and innovation system is a rocket in orbit and is now an unstoppable force in the world,” the minister said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi intends to protect, nurture and continue to catalyze as the country becomes a future technology partner.
