Don’t Attempt to Repair iPhone 15 Pro Max Yourself: Here’s Why

Apple has made the iPhone 15 Pro Max easier to repair, but even then people are not advised to try to repair the iPhone at home. The latest iPhone Pro Max recently underwent a rigorous teardown by iFixit, and it looks like the company has made some welcome changes to make it easier to repair the back panel of the new iPhone.

According to the report, the back of the iPhone 15 Pro Max glass panel can be removed without having to remove the screen first. This is a big change, as the iPhone 14 Pro Max had made it difficult to replace the panel without removing the display, which has now been modified after the internal components of the iPhone 15 Pro Max have been refurbished.

Despite this, Apple still imposes software restrictions on certain components, making it difficult to repair or replace parts at third-party repair centers. Not making these changes means that a good job of replacing the back panel won’t help the iPhone 15 Pro Max get a higher repairability score. In fact, they earned the same score of 4/10 as the iPhone 14 series, which is a shame.

Apple has set a tight leash on which components can work on the iPhone, and that Configuration System tool is still a big part of the process, making it difficult to repair the supposedly easy-to-repair iPhone 15 Pro Max at home. A rating of 4/10 clearly means that iFixit does not recommend users to repair the iPhone themselves.

It helps that you can easily replace the glass panel on the back, but that’s completely different this year, as several drop tests suggest that people may have to visit an Apple center multiple times to get their panel repaired or replaced.

We have come across videos where the iPhone 15 Pro Max panel gets scratched easily and in some cases even breaks. Apple has lowered the price of panel replacement this year, and it’s likely that the company anticipates that people will often come to repair their iPhones.
