Elon Musk claims that OpenAI is now a maximum profit company controlled by Microsoft
Elon Musk on Friday criticized Microsoft for making profits through the non-profit OpenAI he founded.
Developed by OpenAI, now a Microsoft company, AI chatGPT has become a rage, and the tech giant is spending $10 billion on it to make it more useful across industries.
Musk said that OpenAI was created as an open source (that’s why I named it “Open” AI), a non-profit company that acts as a counterweight to Google.
“But now it’s become a closed-source, top-grossing company, effectively controlled by Microsoft. Not what I meant at all,” Twitter’s CEO wrote.
He responded to a follower who said: “Elon Musk says AI is ‘one of the biggest risks’ to civilization and needs to be regulated. He co-founded OpenAI.”
ChatGPT is an advanced artificial intelligence based on the GPT-3 large language model. It is programmed to recognize human language and generate answers based on huge amounts of data.
According to Musk, “ChatGPT has illustrated to people how advanced AI has evolved. AI has been evolving for a while. It just didn’t have an interface that was accessible to most people.”
Musk resigned from OpenAI’s board in 2018 and no longer owns a share in the company.
“It was originally created as an open-source non-profit organization. Now it’s closed-source and for-profit. I have no overt stake in OpenAI, and I’m not on the board and I don’t control it in any way,” he mentioned.
As part of his decision to create OpenAI, Musk stated that Google did not pay enough attention to AI security.
