Elon Musk Expands Video and Audio Call Features on X to Include Free Users
X Premium users have enjoyed making voice and video calls on the platform for some time, but now Elon Musk has decided to bring the feature to all X users, including those who don’t pay for the platform. Bringing calls to X makes it a competitor to WhatsApp and other apps that let you make calls in both formats.
That said, it’s interesting that Musk is opening up the feature to all X users, which likely suggests that the platform’s premium rollout hasn’t gone as rosy as he might have imagined. X notes that by default users can receive calls from accounts they follow or are in their address book. Also, there is another condition: to call a user, you must DM them and they must have DMed you “at least once before”.
To control who can call you, or to remove a call from X entirely, follow these steps:
– Open X and go to the DM section. Here, in the upper right corner, you will see the settings icon. Tap to open
– X gives you the option to disable the feature entirely with the toggle button
You can also limit who can call by selecting one; “People in your address book”, “People you follow” and “Verified users”.
Making video/voice calls with X
– Open your direct messages
– Tap an existing DM conversation or start a new one
– Tap the phone icon
– Tap the phone icon and then ‘Voice Call’ to start a voice call or tap ‘Video Call’ to start a video call
The person you are calling will be notified that you are calling them. If they don’t answer, they get a notification that they don’t answer the call.
