Elon Musk Experiences Back and Neck Pain, Schedules MRI Appointment
In a recent post on his X platform, formerly known as Twitter, Elon Musk announced that he will undergo an MRI for his neck and upper back on Monday. The 52-year-old further mentioned the possibility of needing surgery.
The world’s richest man said this week he will know if surgery is needed before proposing a cage fight with Meta Platforms Inc. founder Mark Zuckerberg. He previously said he “may need surgery to strengthen the titanium plate that holds my C5/C6 vertebrae together.”
As CEO of Tesla Inc. and Space Exploration Technologies Corp., and owner of a closely followed social media platform, Musk’s health is of interest to people around the world. Musk, a notorious workaholic, has said he suffered “mega back pain” after a match with a sumo wrestler.
The post about the sumo match was accompanied by another image of what appears to be a makeshift ring from the Japanese sport. Musk cited the injury last year after challenging Russian President Vladimir Putin to “single out” Ukraine.
Musk, who revels in stirring up online drama, has spoken for weeks about the ongoing battle with Zuckerberg. Competition between the two CEOs has intensified since Facebook parent Meta launched a rival social network, Threads, which competes directly with Musk’s X.

On Sunday, Zuckerberg posted in Threads that he proposed Aug. 26 for the match and is still waiting for confirmation. “I’m done today,” he said. “I’m not holding my breath.”
