Elon Musk files lawsuit against OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman, alleging betrayal of mission to serve humanity

Elon Musk has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman, alleging that they have strayed from the original mission of ChatGPT to prioritize profits over benefiting humanity.

In a lawsuit filed in San Francisco Superior Court, the billionaire Musk said that when he funded the creation of OpenAI, he got an agreement with Altman and president Greg Brockman to keep the AI company as a nonprofit that develops technology for profit. from the audience.

Under its memorandum of understanding, OpenAI would also make its code open to the public, rather than locking it up for the profits of any private company, according to the suit.

However, while having a close relationship with Microsoft, OpenAI and its top executives have set the deal “on fire” and “distorted” the company’s mission, Musk claims in the lawsuit.

“OpenAI, Inc. has been transformed into a closed-source de facto subsidiary of the world’s largest technology company: Microsoft,” the lawsuit filed Thursday says. “Under its new government, it will not only develop, but actually refine AGI to maximize profits for Microsoft over the benefit of humanity.”

AGI refers to general artificial intelligence, which are general purpose artificial intelligence systems that can perform as well as – or even better than – humans in a wide range of tasks.

Musk is suing for breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty and unfair business practices. He also wants an injunction to prevent anyone, including Microsoft, from profiting from OpenAI’s technology.
