Elon Musk Reverses Decision to Alter Twitter X Logo for Second Time
Elon Musk continues to experiment with the design of the new logo for X (formerly known as Twitter), which was revealed on Sunday. The initial ‘X’ logo was created by a user on the microblogging platform, following Musk’s promise that a “good enough” design would be implemented the next day. However, recently, X modified its logo by adding thicker lines. This updated logo even appeared on the Twitter homepage and Musk changed his profile picture to match it. However, shortly after, Musk expressed his dissatisfaction with the thicker lines and decided to revert back to the previous design.
Responding to a tweet about the introduction of the new logo, Musk said: “I don’t like the fatter scales, so I’m coming back. The logo will evolve over time.” Shortly after the tweet, the thicker logo was removed and the platform started showing the older logo. The latest X logo (now abandoned) just looked like the bold font of the original logo. Now it seems that Musk is refraining from making impulsive changes to the logo as he aims to evolve it over time, like Larry the Bird, the platform’s original logo when it was known as Twitter.
Elon Musk wants to improve the logo
The rebranding exercise from Twitter to X was done in just three days, and it appears that much of it was rushed, perhaps to speed up new platform changes that focus on an ad-supported video feed for advertisers, company CEO Linda Yaccarino said.
Elon Musk changes the logo and the police arrive
Images previously surfaced showing the X headquarters in San Francisco still undergoing a rebrand, with cafes showing a new X logo and the bird being removed, highlighting that the process may not have been planned well at all. Even when the exterior logo was removed from the company’s office, police arrived due to a misunderstanding, leading many to believe that authorities may not have been alerted to the move.
The new X logo was created by Twitter user Sawyer Merritt, whose design Musk chose as the platform’s new logo after being asked to submit a logo design.
Now, in the coming days, we should see Musk and Yaccarino’s vision come together as they build their “everything app” that goes beyond the traditional social media experience. Some experts have said the company may emulate the model of WeChat and Grab, called a super app that includes elements of social media, shopping, entertainment, a payment gateway and more.
