Experience the Future of Browsing with Microsoft Edge’s Video Translation Feature!
Microsoft Edge is set to become the preferred browser for those who enjoy watching videos in different languages. The tech giant is working on a video translation feature that will enhance the browsing experience. Despite having a small market share, Microsoft Edge is constantly improving and adding new features. The video translation feature is currently being tested and will initially support four languages, but it will soon be available to all Edge users.
The journey from EdgeHTML to Chromium
Originally introduced in 2015 with the EdgeHTML rendering engine, Microsoft Edge underwent a major overhaul in late 2018 and moved to a Chromium-based architecture. The public release was in early 2020, with Xbox integration coming a year later. While Microsoft Edge is aiming to surpass the 11% share of the desktop browser market, it has recently expanded its reach to Linux. Now the preview branch of Edge Canary offers video translations to a select group of users, Notebookcheck reports.
Leopeva64‘s recent X release featured a GIF animation revealing the addition of a language selection combo in Edge Canary. The currently supported languages are English, French, Spanish and Russian, but the translation function is still a work in progress. The latest version of Canary, version 120.0.2209.0, was released less than a week ago on November 8th.
Integration with the operating system
Microsoft Edge is currently available on multiple platforms, including Android, iOS, Linux, Windows, and macOS. The latest stable releases for all platforms arrived earlier this month. In the future, the video translation feature could extend beyond the browser and become a system-wide addition, similar to the successful integration of live captioning support from Microsoft Edge, which later became a Windows-wide feature.
