Exploring the Shivshakti Point on the Lunar Surface
During a significant event marking the historic landing of Chandrayaan-3, Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed the names of two notable lunar landing sites. These sites include the location where Chandrayaan-3 successfully landed and the spot where Chandrayaan-2 unfortunately crash-landed. Prime Minister Modi made this announcement during his recent visit to the ISRO Telemetry, Tracking, and Command Network Mission Control Complex in Bengaluru, where he unveiled the names “Shivshakti Point” and “Tiranga Point.”
In August 2023, the place where Chandrayaan-3 landed on the Moon’s south pole is now known as Shiv Shakti Point and the place where the Chandrayaan-2 lander crashed into the Moon’s surface in 2019 is known as “Tiranga Point”. Apart from this, Prime Minister Modi also announced that August 23, the landing date of Chandrayaan-3, will be observed as National Space Day in India, representing a historic achievement in the field of space exploration.
Shiv Shakti Point: Fusion of Science and Spirituality
The spot where Chandrayaan-3’s Vikram lander landed will henceforth be called Shiv Shakti Point. The Shiv Shakti point, the name of the Chandrayaan-3 landing site, represents the fusion of science and spirituality. This name is taken from Hindu mythology. Naming the point of contact as Shivshakti, Prime Minister Modi said, “Humanitarian determination is integral to the concept of Shiva, and it is from Shakti that we derive the ability to realize this determination. The ‘Shakti’ in the name ‘Shiv’ Shakti comes from the hard work, inspiration and empowerment of women scientists.”
Inspiration for future generations
Prime Minister Modi emphasized that ‘Shivshakti Point’ is not just a name but an inspiration for future generations. This designation carries a deep message that the power of science can be used to improve humanity.
Empowering women in science
According to PM Modi, the name ‘Shivshakti Point’ pays tribute to the role of women scientists in the Chandrayaan-3 mission. Prime Minister Modi’s recognition of their essential contribution is a strong confirmation of the growing representation of women in science and technology. This recognition not only highlights the dedication of women scientists, but also exemplifies gender inclusion in science.
