Fiat Topolino EV is an Italian twist facelifted version of the Citroen Ami
Fiat already had its own electric car in the 500 series, but it’s now even more compact in its latest urban transport campaign. The company unveiled the Topolino, which is essentially a facelifted version of the Citroen Am with a redesigned front fascia, brown fabric retractable roof, open sides and cream leather seats.
The Topolino shares the Ami’s engine range (both Citroen and Fiat are under the Stellantis umbrella) and looks almost identical, apart from the aforementioned changes. It has a 5.5 kWh battery with a range of 47 miles and a top speed of 28 MPH. Fiat hasn’t shared any interior photos, but the Ami’s only technology is a charging port and a phone holder.
Like the Ami, the Topolino is technically an “ATV” and not a car, which means it can be driven in cities without a license. Fiat said it wanted to “make young people fall in love with cars again” and promote sustainability as well as “joy, optimism and fun”.
The wording of Fiat’s press release suggests that the car will be used to further its sustainability and mobility goals (the words “sustainable” and “mobility” are used no fewer than 20 times). “The new Fiat Topolino will play a socially active role in promoting electric mobility in cities and a special role in creating a personal mobility solution for the whole family,” Fiat writes, adding that it fits Fiat’s “democratic mission to provide sustainable urban transportation. solutions are available to everyone.”
Stellantis has set a goal that by 2030 100 percent of passenger car sales will come from electric cars, and this date is falling very quickly. Like other automakers, it hasn’t shown much in the way of urban transportation options, except for a few small electric vehicles. There is no word on pricing, but Amin can be rented for 25 euros per month with a down payment of 3,850 euros.
