Gmail Offers Translation Tool For Android and iOS Users
Gmail has offered the ability to translate emails in web browsers for some time. However, both iOS and Android mobile apps have missed out on this feature. But now – in a workspace update – Google has announced that it’s adding Gmail translation to mobile devices.
“For years, our users have conveniently translated emails in Gmail on the web into more than 100 languages,” Google said. “Starting today, we’re excited to announce native translation integrated into the Gmail mobile app, allowing you to communicate seamlessly across multiple languages,” it added.
To use this feature, click “Translate” in the banner that opens, then select the language you want to translate the email into. You can also choose to always or never translate certain languages.
The search giant has also announced that the rollout has already started for both iOS and Android, although it could take up to 15 days for the feature to appear. The Android update started rolling out on August 8, while the iOS update started on August 21. Therefore, Android users may have a chance to experience it before iOS users. In addition, the upgrade is offered to all Workspace customers and all personal accounts.
In related news, Google also recently brought a simple file sharing experience and permission request handling by integrating an approval system directly into files, eliminating the need for multiple steps to respond to such requests via email. So now with the new update approvers will see a notification dot on the Share button if they have a pending access request and a banner at the top of the share window.
