Google Bard Now Offers Support for Hindi, Bengali and 7 Other Indian Languages to Compete with ChatGPT
Google has expanded the availability of its ChatGPT alternative, Bard, to 180 countries, including India, as announced during Google I/O 2023 in May. In a recent update, Google has further included support for nine Indian languages, namely Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, and Urdu. This brings the total number of supported languages for Bard to over 40, including Bahasa Indonesia.
With support for over 40 languages, it’s useful if users want to hear the correct pronunciation of a word or listen to a poem or script. “Simply enter a prompt and select the sound icon to hear Bard’s responses. Users can also now change the tone and style of Bard’s responses to five different options: simple, long, short, professional, or casual. This feature is available in English and will soon expand to other languages, Google says .
To help users increase their productivity, Google is adding new ways to pin and rename conversations with Bard in over 40 languages. Now when users start a conversation, they’ll see options in the sidebar for pinning, renaming, and extracting recent conversations. Google has also made it easier for users to share some or all of their Bard conversations with their network.
Google brings Google Lens features to Bard. Whether users want more information about an image or just need help with a caption, they can now upload images using prompts, and Bard will analyze the image to help. This feature is now available in English (US) and will soon be expanded to more languages.
In May, Google ported Bard to PaLM 2, a much more powerful large language model that has enabled many of its recent improvements — including advanced math and reasoning skills and coding capabilities. Over the past few weeks, coding has already become one of the most popular things people do with Bard. Google today introduced a new feature that allows users to export Python code to Replit in addition to Google Colab. This feature is now available in over 40 languages.
