Google Chrome Enhances Mobile Search and Streamlines Desktop Downloading
Google has announced updates for Chrome on mobile and desktop that aim to enhance integration and efficiency. The new mobile features aim to improve the search process, while Chrome for desktop is simplifying the way users download and access web files.
In the Chrome mobile version, the new web page should now show a category called “Rising Searches”, and when you type, the previous ten will appear instead of the top six. Likewise, let’s say you’re on a site about the best pizza places in New York. If you click on the URL above, related searches will appear below in a new category called “Related to this page”. You can also tap on a word in an article, such as the New York City neighborhood it discusses, and use the touch search to see other topics you want to research, such as hotels in the area. Touch to search is only for Android and already exists in browsers as a way to find specific words.
As for the Chrome desktop, say goodbye to the clunky loading bar that pops up at the bottom of the screen (and you have to close it yourself). In the future, downloads will appear in the upper right corner of your browser, next to your account picture. When you save something, a circle will appear around the icon, which will turn blue when the download is complete. By clicking the button, you can view data saved in the last 24 hours, open a folder containing a specific file, and retry, pause, resume, or cancel a download. While this is the default placement for everyone going forward, it may already be live for some people. Google will still warn you if a download looks suspicious, and let you drag and drop downloads as needed.
