Here’s How the Google Pixel 8 Pro Can Now Detect Your Body Temperature
Launched in 2023, the Google Pixel 8 Pro had some interesting additions that included a physical thermometer on the back of the camera. The company limited its functionality to reading the subject’s temperature from its release, but now a new update opens up the possibility of measuring body temperature as well.
January’s latest Pixel Drop update brings the new feature, along with other expected additions like click-to-search and magic typing to the Messages app, among others.
But the main feature of this Drop has to be the body temperature tool, which works in a unique way that Google clearly had in mind when making the device and getting it approved by health authorities. Google even calls it a medical feature that can be accessed from the Pixel 8 Pro’s Thermometer app.
So how does scanning work? Google explains that you can scan your forehead with your phone to get an accurate measurement of your body temperature. The phone does not need to touch the forehead, as infrared sensors and the camera’s LDAF can detect if the phone is near the forehead to start reading.
The company points out that the temperature measurement can be done for you or a friend. Now that Google has Fitbit listed, thermometer results can be saved to your Fitbit profile. We don’t expect Google to roll out this feature in all markets, especially markets like India where medical approvals are done by a different entity.
However, we expect circle search, magic shade and photomoji to get a wider release, which will be released on the 31st. January through the usual over the air update.
