India and US to Sign Deals on Space, 6G, and AI During Modi’s Visit to the US

India and the US are poised to establish a long-term collaboration that extends from Earth to space. Reports indicate that India will endorse the non-binding Artemis Accords, which cover civil space exploration and utilization. Additionally, NASA and ISRO have agreed to a joint space mission to the International Space Station, with plans to launch as early as 2024, according to the White House.

“In space, we can announce that India will sign the Artemis agreements, which advance a shared vision of space exploration for the benefit of all humanity,” a senior Biden administration official said ahead of the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Joe. Biden.

What are Artemis contracts

These are principles designed to guide the exploration and use of civilian space. These are completely non-binding in nature. Notably, it is also the US-led effort to return humans to the moon by 2025. However, it extends its range beyond the moon and also targets Mars and beyond.

Chip assembly plant

Not just space exploration, Micron Technology along with India’s National Semiconductor Mission announced an investment of over $800 million. With India’s financial support, this fund will create a $2.75 billion semiconductor assembly and testing facility in India.

Training of Indian Engineers

In addition to this, there is a plan to implement a training program for 60,000 Indian engineers to increase the Indian semiconductor workforce.

Artificial intelligence

From space, to chips, to engineers and on to artificial intelligence, the list of collaborative efforts is long. “In the field of advanced computing, artificial intelligence and quantum information science, India and the US have first established a joint India-US quantum coordination mechanism,” the official said.

Communication

The countries are working together on 5G and 6G technologies, including Open Radio Access Network (RAN) systems.

India’s 5G and 6G and the US Next G consortium are also leading a new public-private cooperation forum. The US also welcomes India’s participation in the US rip-and-replace program, which removes telecommunications equipment made by unreliable suppliers.
