Indian Space Research Organisation Aims to Send Astronauts to the Moon by 2040

India’s space agency, ISRO, has announced plans to send astronauts to the moon by 2040, following a successful landing earlier this year. In a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s office, it was revealed that India is developing a roadmap for lunar exploration, which will involve a series of missions, the creation of a next-generation launch vehicle, and a new launchpad. This ambitious endeavor aims to solidify India’s position in the global space race, as the country already achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first to land near the south pole in August, surpassing Russia’s failed attempt. Additionally, India has also sent a probe to study the sun.

The United States plans to send the first humans to explore the region near the Moon’s south pole later this decade on the Artemis III mission. China aims to put astronauts on the moon by 2030.

India will showcase its human spaceflight capability with the Gaganyaan mission, which is scheduled to launch in 2025. The country will establish a space station by 2035 and work on a Venus orbiter and a Mars lander, according to the statement.
