iPhone 15 Series Enables 4K Video Output to Monitors Via USB-C
The iPhone 15 series allows users to connect external displays such as monitors and televisions directly to the iPhone, enabling up to 4K HDR video via USB-C DisplayPort support. This means users can mirror their iPhone’s screen without resorting to wireless methods like AirPlay. This feature proves especially useful for tasks like watching or editing videos in LumaFusion that benefit from a larger display.
According to MacRumors, connecting an iPhone 15 series smartphone to a display requires a cable that supports the DisplayPort function and a DisplayPort-compatible display. One big advantage of this method over previous generation iPhones is the ability to produce 4K quality at 60Hz. Previously, connecting an iPhone with a Lightning connector to a display with adapters was limited to 1080p.
Therefore, with the switch to USB-C, the iPhone 15 models now offer a better experience of mirroring content with higher quality.
However, certain devices, such as Samsung’s Galaxy flagships, come with Dex, which allows the phones to act as laptops when connected to a display via a USB-C to USB-C cable. The software automatically adapts to a desktop-style user interface. Hopefully in the future iPhones will offer similar functionality as they have now adopted USB-C.
