iPhone manufacturer Foxconn to acquire 300 acres of land in Bengaluru by July 1; Will release first phone in April 2024
The Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in Karnataka will hand over 300 acres of land to iPhone maker Foxconn by July 1 to set up a manufacturing unit for the smartphone giant in Bengaluru. Minister of Large and Medium Industries M.P. Patel said the Taiwanese electronics giant will start manufacturing iPhones at Devanahalli’s Bengaluru unit by April 2024.
The government says the Rs 13,600 crore project has accelerated the pace of the project and the designated land will be made available to Foxconn by next month. The project is expected to provide employment to at least 50,000 people in the state. The company plans to produce two billion units a year at the factory after three phases.
The announcement came after Foxconn representatives such as Paul Liu, Tun Liu, Simon Song, Bharat Dandy and others met with M.B. Patel. IT and Biotechnology Minister Priyank Karg was also present on a courtesy visit.
The Taiwan-based global company has paid 30% of the cost (Rs 90 crore) for the land to the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB).
In addition to the land, the Karnataka government supplies the company with 50 liters of water per day. It also provides quality electricity, road connections, infrastructure and other needs.
“The company has been asked to tell us what kind of skills it is looking for in employees. Accordingly, steps will be taken to facilitate training programs for qualified applicants to improve their employment.”
In March, Foxconn signed a memorandum of understanding with the Karnataka government to invest Rs 8,000 crore in mobile manufacturing in the state.
