Will ISRO be Able to Revive Vikram Lander? What Lies Ahead for Chandrayaan-3 Mission?
The Chandryaan-3 mission made its inaugural flight on July 14, 2023, and successfully landed its Vikram lander on the lunar surface on August 23. This remarkable achievement has placed the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) in the history books. India now joins the ranks of four nations that have successfully landed on the Moon, and notably, it is the first country to do so on the lunar South Pole. The Vikram lander has spent 14 lunar days conducting studies in this region before entering sleep mode as the lunar night begins. Stay informed about when ISRO plans to reactivate the lander.
When will the Vikram calculator be activated?
The Vikram lander and the Pragyan rover made several important discoveries at the South Pole of the Moon that amazed people. New studies can reveal various mysteries as well as change previous theories about the Moon. ISRO reports that the Vikram lander captured a seismic event on the Moon, claiming it to be a natural phenomenon. The space agency was also able to test the lander again and it landed safely on the moon twice.
After 14 days of in-situ tests, the lunar night began, marking the end of the Chandrayaan-3 mission, but hopes remain that the Vikram lander will be reactivated. On September 4, 2023, the lander was put into hibernation to survive the harsh environments of the lunar night. In pitch darkness and temperatures of nearly -200 degrees below zero, it is unlikely that the lander will come back to life, but ISRO scientists say it is possible if the solar panels are charged by the sun.
According to reports, the Vikram lander is expected to be launched on September 22. ISRO is working to reactivate the system and if it wakes up, Chandrayaan-3 will continue its lunar explorations beyond its original mission. If not, the lander will forever remain at the South Pole of the Moon as India’s ambassador.
