Leading child rights organization doesn’t want PUBG Mobile relaunch in India
As PUBG Mobile India tries to navigate a revival in the country, India’s main children’s rights body – the National Commission for the Protection of the Rights of the Child (CNPCR) – has said it would not be appropriate as long as legislation is not in place for such online games.
According to a report in The Telegraph, at a meeting called to discuss the game’s relaunch proposal, CNPCR Chairman Priyank Kanoongo “strongly recommended” not to relaunch PUBG Mobile in the country until “Appropriate laws” are in place for these online games. .
Kanoongo confirmed that such a meeting had indeed taken place to discuss the relaunch of the Battle Royale game and told the PTI that “the CNPCR is not in favor of recommending such games in the country”.
A senior official also mentioned that the fact that gambling resulted in the loss of many lives in the country was also discussed during the internal meeting.
PTI has sent requests to PUBG Mobile about this but has yet to receive a response from them.
PUBG Mobile has struggled to relaunch its game in the country after it was banned in June of this year along with more than 100 other Chinese apps. PUBG Mobile has announced that it will soon launch PUBG Mobile India, a specially designed version of the game for the country, but has yet to be able to get the green light from the government.
