Learn about the potential improvements to ChatGPT with the introduction of GPT-5 from Sam Altman’s OpenAI
OpenAI’s ChatGPT, a generative AI chatbot, has become extremely popular since its release in November 2022. The tool is powered by a large language model (LLM) known as GPT, with the current version being GPT-4. OpenAI is rumored to be preparing to launch GPT-5 in the near future, which is anticipated to be the most significant upgrade to ChatGPT yet. Users who have been utilizing the premium version of the tool should stay tuned to see what enhancements the upcoming LLM will bring to ChatGPT.
GPT-5 is coming soon
According to a Business Insider report, OpenAI plans to release a new generation of GPT this summer, so that’s only a few months away. However, the company is still planning an official release date. It is rumored that OpenAI has presented a GPT-5 demo to some companies to gather feedback. The upcoming GPT-5 version is expected to be improved and “substantially better” than the GPT-4 version currently available on ChatGPT.
The GPT-5 model is now in the training phase and is also not released for testing purposes. Therefore, it may take some time before the company officially starts the LLM. The report also highlights that the LLM is tested internally, which includes a “red team”. This training phase is part of the security training, which evaluates the tool’s capabilities in different scenarios before it is released to the public.
GPT-5 is expected to include several improvements that users encountered in the current version, so the model is likely to be more reliable and believable. Altman is also believed to have several announcements in the coming months. In a recent interview on Lex Fridman’s podcast, Altman may have hinted at the launch of an unnamed model, believed to be the GPT-5. However, it is not certain when the model will be fully ready for testing or how much time will be needed before it reaches the testing stage. Note that the above release claims are based on speculation and we cannot know for sure until OpenAI makes an official announcement.
