Learn more about Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon chipsets set to be revealed in March.
Qualcomm is gearing up to launch the second version of its flagship SoC this month. According to several reports, the US tech company plans to launch an underclocked version of its current flagship processor Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 along with the new 7+ Gen 3 on March 18. The circuit series is expected to be launched at a special themed event. – Intelligence is in the core, and there is a dragon in it. The rumored Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 has new AI features with slightly reduced performance.
The configuration of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor is almost identical to the 8 Gen 3. It has one high-performance Cortex X4-based, four medium-power cores based on the Cortex-A720 architecture and three efficiency cores. in Cortex-A520. There is a slight difference in the clock frequency of each core in the SoC.
The high-performance X4 core offers a peak clock speed of 3.01 GHz, which is slower than the 3.30 GHz of the 8 Gen 3. Medium cores are clocked from 3.25GHz to 2.61GHz and small cores are dialed down to 1.84GHz versus 2.27GHz. In addition to the differences in clock frequencies, the 8s Gen 3 is also expected to have a new, integrated AI processor.
When it comes to networking and image processing, performance is likely to be the same in those departments. However, due to the lower clock frequency, the battery life may be significantly improved due to better power consumption.
Speaking of graphical tasks, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is also rumored to have a new GPU. The Adreno 735 graphics chip replaces the Adreno 750 GPU in the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. The Adreno 735 has lower clock rates, which means games and other 3D applications may see a slight performance hit.
Qualcomm is also expected to announce a new mid-range chipset at the same event, reportedly the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3. This SoC is likely to be used in the premium mid-range smartphone segment. The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 could include the flagship Adreno 732 GPU, which offers an incredibly good gaming experience without breaking the bank.
The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 and 7+ Gen 3 were speculated to hit the market in the first quarter of 2024, so several upcoming smartphones could feature the said Qualcomm processor. Some potential devices to be powered by the new SoCs include OnePlus Ace 3V, Realme GT Neo, Redmi Note 13 Turbo, Xiaomi Civi 4, Vivo Pad 3.
